Jersey Kayak Trail (Advanced 5 days)

Jersey’s dramatic coastline of cliffs, caves, and secluded bays enables sea kayakers to develop their skills and explore. Add a 12m tidal range, and you can paddle over places that within a few hours will be dry land.

For the more experienced – or those wanting expert coaching – paddle tide races or offshore to Les Écréhous.

Previous sea kayaking experience is essential. Expect to kayak for between 5-6 hours per day in conditions of around force 4 and moderate tidal waters. This may include overfalls, swell and tidal streams of about 3 knots (or more) off some headlands.

Intermediate level kayakers may want to consider our Intermediate Kayak Trail.

The 5-day course is a great way to tune up your skills in a superb kayaking location. Some paddlers use this course as preparation for the British Canoeing Sea kayak Leader training or assessment at each end of the week.

Fly from regional airports to quickly get paddling without the hassle of a long drive. Jersey is more than just a kayaking destination. There is a wide choice of accommodation, restaurants, and things to do.

Kayaks and equipment included: £550. Maximum of 6 kayakers.

If you are unsure if your sea kayaking skills and experience is sufficient to join this course, please contact us before you book.

Big Tides Advanced Sea Kayak Course (5 days)

Sea kayak in Jersey, the island of the 12m tides.

Paddle tide streams that flow at more than 5 knots. Challenge yourself in overfalls as the tide ebbs and flows around the coast. Test your navigation skills as you plan coastal and offshore routes under the watchful eye of local expert paddlers.

Over five days you’ll kayak on some of the highest (and lowest) tides of the year. Explore a coastline that is never the same as the ocean rises and falls by up to 3 inches per minute. Spend time in tide races, overfalls and rock gardens and (if conditions permit) surf to tune up your water skills. We’ll also explore the largest rocky intertidal area in Europe. A place where the ocean can recede up to two miles from land to reveal a remarkable undersea world.

Accompanied by local expert paddlers, you’ll discover some of the best sea kayaking spots around Jersey as we tune-up your sea kayak skills.

Kayaks and paddle kit included: £550. Maximum of 6 kayakers.

This course is for experienced/advanced sea kayakers. Intermediate level paddlers should consider the Intermediate kayak trail option.
