Surf kayaking. Introductory course

Surf kayaking is the place to develop your skills and have fun in the surf. This short course is designed to cover key skills so you can progress in surf kayaking.
Whether you want to be able to paddle out through small surf and get back ashore with a bit of style – instead of landing in a soggy heap on the beach – or learn the basics of manoeuvring on surf this course will help improve your skills.
No previous surf experience is needed but you must have some kayaking experience.
This course will use sit-on-top kayaks so rolling is not a requirement. There will be opportunity to try high performance surf kayaks if you wish. Expect to get wet! This course is limited to a maximum of 4 paddlers per coach.
The course is led by Gary Kemp. In 2001 Gary was a member of the Jersey Surf Kayak team, which won the world championship at Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, California.

Cost:
£150 with all kit supplied
£130 if you have your own kayak and kit.
Dry-suits can be hired at a small charge.

Private and small group surf kayak coaching can be arranged.
Tune up your surf kayak skills.
Use sit-on-top, surf ski, or sit inside style surf kayaks. We have some Mega surf kayaks for those wanting to try high performance surf kayaks.
Jersey has some good surf beaches and offshore reefs can also be good kayak surfing spots.

Learn to land your sea kayak in control
If you own a touring sea kayak landing and launching in surf can be tricky. Many paddlers benefit from 1:1 coaching to learn how to land in a controlled way through surf.
Too often paddlers have only been taught how to surf the wave and not the techniques to land in a controlled way.
