Sit on top and sea kayak courses and coaching

Courses are designed to be fun.

We run a range of courses to enable you to get more out of your kayaking.

If you want to try kayaking before signing up for a course try a coastal tour.

Explore the coastline of Jersey while you learn to kayak.
All courses are run by experienced British Canoe Union instructors.
Ratios do not exceed 8 clients to 1 instructor. Extra staff often assist at the start of courses. On specialist courses the ratio is reduced.

1:1 lessons and private sea kayak and sit-on-top classes are available.

Adult Introduction to Sit-on-top sea Sea Kayaking Level 1 Course 2012

For anyone who wants to discover sit-on-top kayaking or has bought a kayak and wants to improve their paddling skills.

Explore and learn new kayak skills with qualified staff.

All equipment including wetsuits is provided. We will cover rescues, solo paddling and explore our fantastic coastline.

Duration & Dates:

8 weeks on Sundays 15 April – 3 June 2012 1000-1230 £310 with manual.

8 weeks on Tuesdays 15 May -3 July 1800-2030 £310 with manual.

6 week option on 15 April- 20 May 2012 1000-1230. £235 with manual.

6 weeks on Tuesdays 15 May-19 June 1800-2030 £235 with manual.

Sit-on-top and sit inside sea kayak level 2 course with Derek 2012

This short course is aimed at paddlers of either sit-on-top or sit inside kayaks who have some paddling experience and want to develop their skills.

Over 6 classes we will look at more advanced paddle techniques including rock hopping, surf landing and launching, surf kayak skills and rescue techinques.

Previous paddle experience (such as having completed one of our courses) is needed to get the most from the course.

All your own kit option (paddles,kayak,wetsuit,buoyancy aid) £150

Option to join individual sessions: £37.50 if needing all gear or £25 if you have your own kayak. You’ll need to book in advance.

Sea kayaking holidays and week long courses 2012

Looking for a sea kayak or activity holiday in Jersey? Learn sea kayaking and explore the coast on a 3,4 or 5 day course.
These courses follow a similar structure to our popular level one sea kayak and sit-on-top classes. A great way to have an outdoor adventure holiday in Jersey -even when you live on the island!

Opportunity to try different kayak designs so you get a better idea of what is best for you. Both sit-on-top and sit inside sea kayak training is possible.

Shorter private courses can also be arranged.

Over 50s (and younger) Sit-on-Top Kayaking

An option for those who wish to enjoy kayaking. Suitable for anyone, who wants to spend more time on the water and to paddle in the company of an experienced instructor.
Classes operate out of as many different locations as possible to enable you to discover the incredible coastline of Jersey.

Beginners are welcome. Skill acquisition is not a key aim. The improvement of techniques and advice will be available.

All equipment is provided.

Duration & Dates:

Fridays 1400-1600 15 June -13 July

Cost: £32.50 per class

Own kit option £25 (Providing all your equipment is to a suitable safety standard for the planned activity).

Adult Sit inside Sea Kayak Course 2012

Using traditional style decked kayaks this course will provide participants with the opportunity to use sea kayaks which are based on traditional Inuit designs. These

fast and responsive crafts are of a higher performance than sit-on-top kayaks.
The course covers all aspects of sea kayaking and rescue techniques. Previous experience with sit-on-top or closed cockpit kayaks is useful to get the most out of this course.

As this course is using higher performance crafts the class size will be to a maximum staff student ratio of 1:6.
Opportunity to obtain British Canoe Union awards if required.

All equipment including wetsuits is provided.
