Jersey Kayak Adventures staff get WiSe
Jersey kayak Adventures takes a proactive role to ensure staff follow current good practice when observing wildlife around Jersey. We already have guidelines in place.
As well as following national environmental guidelines to
observe wildlife by kayak we are playing a major part in the development of a Jersey scheme to encourage all commercial charter operators to adopt national standards to ensure responsible and sustainable behaviour afloat.
Resulting from Derek’s input the Environment department is running a one-day observing wildlife course run by Colin Speedy of WiSE (Wildlife SafE).
WiSE is a nationally recognised body whose aim is to develop good practice in ensure the safe observation of marine wildlife. Aimed at commercial outfitters, passenger charter operators of pleasure craft, wildlife cruise operators, dive boats and charter yachts who may come into contact with “mega”marine wildlife such as whales, dolphins, basking sharks or seals.
Training consists of instruction in to how to best view marine life and to minimise disturbance. As well as the one day course a public meeting is being held on:
Tuesday 4 March 1900 at St Helier Yacht Club.
Responsible and sustainable good practice when observing wildlife is essential. Jersey Kayak Adventures is proud to help set professional standards.
